An open letter to Westside Bible Fellowship from the Elders

Dear Westside family:

This past Sunday was an important morning at Westside. Herb spoke for all of us as he taught from God’s Word and shared how God has been working in our hearts and leading us about His plans for Westside. We take our role as leaders very seriously and constantly cast ourselves on the Lord because we realize our own inadequacies.

In his message Herb stressed our firm commitment to obey God’s Word as well as our passion to see every believer at Westside engaged in remembering Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death through weekly participation in the Lord’s Supper. We hope these extremely important points did not get lost in the details!

Herb also carefully explained the many reasons why all of us Elders believe it is best for Westside to move to a single 1 ½ hour Sunday morning service beginning October 28 at 10:30 am. This service will begin with remembering Christ around the Lord’s Table because we believe this is so important and should be kept front and center. Sunday School will also begin at 10:30, although parents will have the option of keeping their children with them during the breaking of the bread portion of the service after which they will be dismissed to their classes. A written plan is here.

If you weren’t able to hear this message or would like to listen to it again, it is now posted on our website here. You can listen to the message or download it as well as viewing the visuals. You can also access the message on the Westside iTunes podcast.

Many of you expressed positive support and enthusiasm for this decision. We fully realize that some have concerns. If this describes you, please know that we do not take your concerns lightly and very much want to talk personally with you so we can try to be of help. Please contact any one of us.

We love all of you, and we quote the verses that Herb shared at the end of the message, “Let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Do not . . . destroy the work of God.” (Romans 14:19-20)
