It’s six days until the election. Emotions are high. The stakes are even higher. I will be voting because it is a gift to have a say in what policies we want implemented in our country. But this is not a political post. Well, maybe it is! If politics leave you frustrated, scared, confused, anxious or uncertain, then this post is for you.
I was reading my Bible in John 6 today, the occasion where Jesus walks on the water. The disciples were crossing a lake in a boat at night, when suddenly Jesus appears on the water, walking towards them. The disciples are naturally frightened. What in the world is happening…?! As I was reading this sentence, my mind was distracted about “garbage” comments I had just read about on my phone. Then, the very next words I read in John 6 were Jesus saying: “It is I; do not be afraid.”
It is I. Don’t be afraid. IT’S ME. DON’T BE AFRAID!!
When you know Christ, you don’t have to be afraid! In fact, it’s the most repeated command in the whole Bible. DON’T. BE. AFRAID. God so clearly created us to be in relationship with Him. He patiently beckons us to come to Him. Jesus’ death in our place secures our redemption for sin and opens the opportunity to be a part of God’s family. If you don’t choose to put your faith in Jesus, you have every reason to be afraid.
Judgment WILL come to all who chose to go their own way instead of trusting in and submitting to the holy and gracious God who made you. But for those who are IN CHRIST:
✔️There is no condemnation (Romans 8:1)
✔️No one can snatch you out of Jesus’ hand (John 10:28)
✔️He gifts you with a peace beyond understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)
✔️You have an inheritance that can NEVER perish, spoil or fade. He’s guarding it for you right now! (1 Peter 1:4-5, John 14:3)
✔️And spoiler…In the end, JESUS WINS. (1 Cor. 15:54-57, Hebrews 2:8-14, Philippians 2:9-11, 1 Thess 4:13-18, Revelation chapters 19-22, etc. etc.)
I included many Bible references so you can go look them up if you are anxious and could use some direction to realign your heart.
So yes, go vote. Vote for morality. Vote against evil. Maybe the Lord will be gracious enough to keep our country afloat for a little bit longer, so we have more time to bring more people with us to heaven. But as we wait, only Jesus has the ability to give you true and lasting peace.
Jesus lovingly pleads with you: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me...I am leaving you with a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:1, 27 NLT)
