A message from the Elders:
We Elders want to share an important update about the mission trip that was planned for this summer.
You probably recall that the original plan was to send a team to Turkey to build tiny houses for the earthquake survivors. It was encouraging that a number of Westsiders signed up to go on this mission. But then the Turkish brother who was in charge of the project died suddenly, and there was no one to take his place. So, Jerry Mattix and others in the Middle East made the decision to shut down this project and to instead focus on church planting. This closed the door for going to Turkey.
After examining different options, we and Nathan Meeker, who was going to lead the team, made the decision to instead send a team to help with practical projects at Indigenous (formerly Indian) Bible College in Flagstaff, AZ, where two other Westside teams had previously served.
However, only 4 people committed to go on this IBC mission trip. After the Turkey trip was cancelled, enthusiasm waned considerably, and some of those who wanted to go to Turkey were unable to get off work.
Consequently, yesterday we and Nathan reluctantly made the decision to cancel the IBC mission trip and to instead trust the Lord to raise up another team to take part in a significant short term mission outreach next year. We still want Westside to be involved in taking the gospel to the nations.
We thank those who have prayed and been an encouragement. And big thanks to Nathan for all the time he invested in planning these trips and preparing the participants.
